Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg: Bon Voyage inside a Grand Hotel

The Atlantic Kempinski offers its customers a huge setting of history. It opened in 1909 in order to comfort early passengers between the European and American Atlantic Route. Many people had to say Goodbye or Bon Voyage at this place. Just imagine horses on the roads, very few automobiles and steam-engined ships ahead of your window. A little bit later, in the year 1957, the Atlantic got part of the Kempinski Hotels. And till today it is one of the Leading Hotels of the World – that’s quite a title! Some of the perhaps most notable guests have been Charles de Gaulle, Maria Callas and even Neil Armstrong. So, there are all kind of remarkable guests, from statesman to one of the most renowned opera singers in the world. One man came directly from the moon – that’s a fact!

Maybe it’s the spirit of the Atlantic Kempinski, the luxurious interior or the perfect service one may find at every corner and every table. Even James Bond had to visit this place once. You may realise by now, the Atlanic Kempinski can be a special place for very special people. And that’s where this Lifestyle & Leisure Report begins and another story ends. Just because this is the perfect place to say ”Bon Voyage”, just like 1909…

So don’t invite just someone to the Atlantic Kempinski. Invite people that are important to you. People that matter and stand in line with the ones above – at least from your point of view. That’s what I did. Okay, I have to admit that I waited for almost two years since I got a second chance to tell this someone how important she is to me – or was, because I knew I had to say “Goodbye”. But maybe that’s what is really important in life. To have the perfect place for the ones you care for the most. Because places and moments sometimes last forever…

So I waited in front of the main entrance and gave her a decent “Hello” before we took a few steps and entered the Atlantic Kempinski. Everything was set. The wheather was outstanding. Warm wind above our heads in the middle of the courtyard, cold champagne next to our table. The fountain created a nice and smoothing noise. And as every single moment before, I got nervous next to her. This was definitely the place in order to catch up some old stories.

Even the coffee table makes you feel like visiting the chairman of an English colony. Finest china and selected cookies were between us. And the service was as decent as it can be in such a moment. When the sun began to set down, I knew it was almost time. Only a little walk remained ahead of us. Most likely the last walk together, remembering that this was still a “Bon Voyage” meeting. But seeing her sitting in that chair, surrounded by that beautiful ambience, hearing her smile, yes, that very moment meant a lot to me. And every time I come back to this place, I can remember and enjoy the complete setting of the Atlantic Kempinski…
